Francis Grasso Residency (c. 1969–1972)

Grasso's residency from the room's straight-era beginnings in autumn 1969 through its 1972 closure (interrupted by a spell at the Haven in 1970, in Lawrence's account), DJing from the marble altar with two turntables and a basic fader. He developed and refined slip-cue beatmatching here; Michael Cappello and Steve D'Acquisto carried the technique onward. The residency defined the room's identity and established the continuous-mix approach that would propagate to every subsequent New York dance music era.
