Two days after the New York City Department of Health's forced closure of the Mineshaft (November 7), the Anvil closed voluntarily — preempting a likely order under the same October 1985 State Sanitary Code amendment. Read as both solidarity with the Mineshaft and tactical acknowledgment that the room's operations were identical in character.
