Raids were a near-weekly occurrence throughout the bar's existence. A button triggered a red warning light in the back dancing room; patrons ceased dancing and returned to their tables. Those arrested—predominantly butches charged under 'three article' cross-dressing ordinances—were taken to the Women's House of Detention at Greenwich Avenue and Sixth Avenue.
