H0L0 opened in July 2017 on the Queens–Brooklyn border at 1090 Wyckoff Avenue, steps from the Myrtle-Wyckoff M/L station in a neighborhood that had already anchored Trans-Pecos and a loose post-Williamsburg underground. The venue was co-founded by musician, curator, and creative director Sam Hillmer, who co-founded Trans-Pecos in Ridgewood in 2013 and helped launch live programming at the Knockdown Center in Maspeth, alongside visual artists Marco Boggio-Sella and Craig Kalpakjian; Hillmer is the operational and programming lead, while Boggio-Sella and Kalpakjian (whose work is held in the MoMA and Whitney collections) extend the venue's identity as an art-practice space as much as a club. The building is a plain-brick corner storefront; the space operates across two rooms (a main dancefloor built for pressure and a secondary bar-facing room) with a 4-point Danley sound system tuned for low-end accuracy and impact. There are no raised platforms and no VIP sections. Time Out noted its 'no-frills DIY vibe' and 'plain-brick corner facade' belying its status as a destination, and early bookings ranged from L.I.E.S.-affiliated noise-techno (Vereker) to South African GQOM (DJ Lag) to UK dubstep veterans (Loefah), sketching a programming logic that favors genre hybridity and artists who rarely play the city. MARICÓN, co-founded in 2014 by promoters Joselo and Fried Plátano to fill a void for the Latinx QTPOC community, holds recurring dates that reclaim a slur as a celebration of queer Latinx culture, DJs, and performers. ReSolute (founded 2007 by Nektarios Ioannidis and Connie Yin, among New York's longest-running underground house and techno parties) uses the room for extended multi-hour sessions and international guests, including 28-hour New Year's extravaganzas. Kein Klub, a locally-rooted series focused on 'discovery and raw, off-center club music,' programs artists rarely seen in New York. SHEILA, described as 'a queer dance sanctuary conjured across two rooms of stunning sound' and created by the organizers of Hot For You and Joyride, holds recurring dates that use both rooms simultaneously. Freak NYC, an LGBTQ+ collective oriented around 'radical acceptance, embodied freedom, and collective care' with an explicit consent framework and zero-tolerance harassment policy, made its debut at H0L0 in March 2026. MeanRed has brought UK artists including Plastician and Roni Size to the room, under its Blueprint and Across The Pond billings, and Co/Function has run house and deep electronic programming on the main floor. Queer and community-facing programming runs across the roster rather than sitting on a single night. The room's sound reputation rests on the Danley system, described in venue listings and reviews as tuned for pressure and precision rather than volume. Marathon sets are common; the yard at the adjacent 1563 Decatur Street address (listed separately on Resident Advisor as H0L0 Yard) extends the footprint outdoors for daytime and festival-format events. A neighbouring warehouse space on Wyckoff Avenue is associated with the venue; no cited source confirms its address or its operating status. The club's public identity remains collective: it describes itself as 'operated by and for local artists and promoters,' and this record long carried no founder names. The naming of Hillmer, Boggio-Sella, and Kalpakjian rests on published interviews and artist biographies rather than the venue's own billing, and the ongoing operational roles of the two visual artists are uncertain. The exact opening date within July 2017 is unconfirmed; the year 2017 is corroborated by multiple independent listing platforms and a contemporaneous Time Out review dated September 2017. The venue's location shaped what it could programme. When Sam Hillmer co-founded Trans-Pecos at 915 Wyckoff Avenue in 2013, Ridgewood's Wyckoff corridor was largely uncharted by the post-Williamsburg underground; the 2017 opening of H0L0 at 1090 Wyckoff extended that geography further along the same avenue. The Myrtle-Wyckoff M/L station offered transit access that venues on the gentrifying Williamsburg waterfront no longer could, and the corridor's distance from the tourist-nightlife circuit created conditions for programming experiments that more visible rooms could not sustain without commercial pressure. H0L0's model of community infrastructure — workspace, rehearsal and recording facilities, live-stream and podcast capacity, CBO meeting space operating alongside the club — reflects a deliberate response to what the mid-2010s wave of closures (285 Kent and Death by Audio, both in 2014) made legible about the vulnerability of rooms that operated only as clubs.
